Tuesday morning I was awakened at 5:20. It was my Haitian cell beeping loudly and lighting up. There was a new text message for me. How exciting! It was from Digicel, the phone company. Not so exciting. Here is what the text said, “Nou chwazi w kom kliyan spesyal pou yon pwomosyon kap dire 1 jou.” It was an ad to buy more minutes. I was chosen because I am a special client! The rest of the text went on to explain the fabulous offer I would miss if I did not act today. The next morning, same time, same message. And again on Thursday morning, and Friday morning, and Saturday morning.
